A nightmare at a bus stop in Szczecinek. "I screamed for help. My son's face was covered in blood."

The bite occurred at a bus stop on Jana Pawła II Street in Szczecinek. Nothing foreshadowed the tragedy.

"We were getting off the bus. My son stepped away from me for a moment and approached the dog. He wanted to pet it, but it suddenly lunged at him," Emilia, mother of 3-year-old Darek, told a "Fakt" reporter. "I screamed for help! My son's face was covered in blood, and the skin was torn off his forehead and under his eyes. His entire face is stitched up," the woman reported.

Doctors still don't know if the boy will see well. "All of this requires further testing," says Darek's mother. After the attack, the boy became very agitated. "I hope this tragic event serves as a warning to other parents. Don't let your children approach dogs," urges Emilia.

Dramatic moments in Szczecinek. Why did the dog attack?

According to police, the dog was on a leash at the time of the incident, and the owner was trying to control it. According to reports, the woman felt a tug. She immediately tried to pull the dog away, but she fell. The dog was still on a leash, but it began to bite.

The Border Collie breed is not considered aggressive. The dog's vaccinations were up to date, as confirmed by the owner. Police secured surveillance footage and are interviewing witnesses. For now, the investigation is being conducted "in the case," not "against" a specific individual. "We are analyzing the evidence collected. Bodily harm lasting more than seven days is punishable by up to five years in prison," explains Asst. Anna Matys, press officer at the Szczecinek County Police Headquarters.

If the dog had a muzzle, this wouldn't have happened.

Mrs. Emilia is still reeling from what happened and appeals to owners, especially those of large dogs, to muzzle them in public places, such as bus stops or the interior of public transport vehicles.

"I regret not having caught my son in time to protect him. Fortunately, he's alive, but it could have ended tragically. A child who's only three years old doesn't know what dangers they might face," says Darek's devastated mother. She also believes the dog's owners' behavior immediately after the incident was inappropriate, as they didn't immediately come to her aid and tried to downplay the situation.

The boy was taken to a hospital in Koszalin, where his wounds were treated. He is currently home, but his family is anxiously awaiting the results of his vision tests. Will the case end up in court? That depends on the results of the ongoing investigation.
